Über uns
Maurens is a village located in a peaceful rural environment, surrounded by fields and hills. With its tranquil atmosphere and traditional houses, it reflects the typical charm of the Gascon countryside.
In the town of Maurens, you can discover the Saint-Blaise church. Built in the 19th century, in brick, it is located at the foot of the old castle hill. To the east of the church, a staircase gives access to the plateau, once the domain of the chatelain. It is remarkable for its facade, particularly with its bell wall, pierced by 3 “ouilles” (name of the openings receiving the bells). Inside the church, one can find two bells of a certain rarity, of the “Demoiselle” type in allusion to their elegant silhouettes. Those of the village date from 1882, they were specially melted by the founders Monin and Aintandre. Between the nave and the north chapel, the relics of Saint-Blaise are exposed. The town has 15 crosses of different materials. There were reports of processions that went from cross to cross.
Gallo-Roman remains were discovered in different places in the commune of Maurens. A bronze lamp with a bull’s head was updated at a place called En Blanquet. At a place called Pouret, it is an intaille that has been found. It is a hard and fine stone, engraved in hollow to serve as a seal or stamp. It can be presented alone or mounted as a ring, jewelry, or part of an adornment. The carnelian intaglio, discovered in the commune of Maurens, represented a fantastic figure, a composite animal dating from the 2nd half of the 1st century.
A feudal motte is also present in the town, vestige of an old castle, whose foundations are under the current castle.
Behind the town hall of Maurens, there are the remains of an old castle that existed less than a century ago. This castle was partially destroyed in a fire in 1933. Today, there are only the stables that have been converted into houses as well as part of the castle park.
