Village de Lussan
LUSSAN , Gers – Kulturelles Erbe
Über uns
The Gers village of Lussan is located between Gimont and Auch. You can notably see the church of Paillan from the 18th century.
In Lussan, you can discover the Saint-Barthélemy church. The portal, west, with fluted uprights is adorned with a Virgin. Inside, there is a Roman baptistery. There is also an altar painting and its frame of the Assumption of the Virgin, dated 1872, and classified as historical monuments as well as a gilded wooden missal door (Bible door, lectern).
On the banks of the Arrats, we also find the chapel of Pailhan, Our Lady of the Snows, known as Sainte Blanche. Its entirety has been listed in the secondary inventory of historical monuments since 1979. It was built by the Cistercians of Gimont and depended on the Abbey of Gimont until the Revolution. At the bedside, outside is written: 1741. But traces of the de Pailhan family are found from 1162 in the cartulary of the abbey of Gimont. It is preceded to the west by a canopy, like many churches in the region. The triangular wall bell tower consists of 3 decreasing registers: the lower part had two openings that were blocked for stability reasons. The whole is built in coated rubble. It was completely restored in 2000-2002. The statue to the left of the altar was the subject of a cult among young mothers who came to make her touch the linen intended for children. Leaning against the church, there is the Monument to the Dead, a work by the Aussian artist Francou.
The municipality of Lussan has a dovecote listed in the secondary inventory of Historical Monuments. It was certainly built at the same time as the castle of Lalanne, in the 19th century since it depends on it. This loft is of a rare type because its construction is later than the traditional local constructions. The ground floor is open on all four sides. The climb to the first floor is via a staircase located in a neighboring building. This floor serves as a fruit store, a traditional cheese factory. The staircase joins the top floor which serves as a pigeonnier. The roof is surmounted by a campanile and a green-colored glazed terracotta spit. This site is private and closed to the public.
4 castles are located on Lussan. These sites are private.
Lussan is also known for its wine-making past. The wines from this stony terroir knew a certain fame. At the beginning of the 19th century, the castles of Lussan, de la Boutiguère as well as that of Lalanne employed a lot of labor, sharecroppers as well as agricultural workers. Today the vine has almost disappeared.
