Village de Blanquefort
BLANQUEFORT , Gers – Kulturelles Erbe
Über uns
Blanquefort is a charming village that stands out for its hilly landscapes, traditional architecture and peaceful atmosphere.
Today, you can discover and visit the church of Saint-Sabin. This church, dating from the 18th century, is built in brick and has a porch bell tower. The main altar, the tabernacle and the counter-altar are made of marble, dated from the 19th century. You can also discover the statue of Sainte-Germaine from 1800.
Inside the current church, we find different objects inscribed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments: the high altar, Tabernacle, Baldaquin and counter altar, in marble, dated from the end of the 18th century. Among the remarkable objects of this church, we can also mention the rare statue of Saint Germaine in carved and painted wood, dating from the 1800s. The religious heritage of the commune also includes the small rural chapel of the cemetery and some crosses present on Blanquefort, including one, at a place called Lassale, which materializes the location of the old church.
Like many of its neighbors, we found on the town of Blanquefort, Gallo-Roman remains. A villa would notably have existed from the 1st to the 5th century. We discovered, at a place called Larriou, wall structures, materials (mosaics, tegulae, marbles, coins, weavers’ weights, ceramics, late sigillée, needles, bone hairpins,…). At a place called La Plagne, we discovered small deposits of ceramics and tiles.
In the commune of Blanquefort, there was an old windmill that was converted into a reservoir for barracks in 1854. Today only the walls remain. 2 dovecotes are still visible in the commune. Both are now private properties. The one at the bottom of the castle is the subject of beliefs, it would possess an underground that would connect it to the Planselve Abbey of Gimont.
You can also discover in the town of Blanquefort the castle of Bruca. The castle of Bruca replaced an old stately home. Inside it, there is a large canvas listed in the secondary inventory of historical monuments, depicting the hunt of a local lord, probably M de Ruble, whose wolf hunts and his pack of blue dogs have remained famous. The commune owned a military stud farm from 1912 to 1922, before the arrival of the train. Today there are some traces of the old barracks.
The municipality of Blanquefort has a type 2 ZNIEFF ‘Le cours de l’Arrats’ which covers 30 municipalities, including 22 in the Gers. The flora is particularly rich with species sometimes very rare like the Roman hyacinth, a species protected at the national level and whose course of the Arrats hosts several stations among the most important in the department.
