L’oppidum fu fondato nell’ultimo quarto del VI secolo o all’inizio del V secolo a.C.. Il sito è stato scelto per tre motivi: forma uno sperone sbarrato, facile da difendere in caso di attacco; è vicino ai laghi di Bages e Sigean, che all’epoca erano collegati al mare e navigabili; infine, la “Via Héracléenne” passava vicino e attraversava un guado sulla Berre verso il sito.
Visite guidate al Museo delle Corbières e all’Oppidum solo il mercoledì mattina da aprile a ottobre e il sabato mattina da novembre a marzo.
