The Confrérie des pénitents blancs was founded in 1584. This type of confraternity emerged in the midst of Catholic reform. They arose from the need for lay people to pray together, and to practice charity towards the poor and needy. They were concerned with mutual aid between penitents, and the organization of good works aimed at the relief of humanity. The penitents organize processions and take part in parish processions (Assumption?). The chapel of the same name is attested as early as 1642. The penitents lost the chapel during the French Revolution (it was sold as national property) and bought it back in 1831. The last penitent disappeared in the 1930s. Once a parish cinema (1959), it became the home of the municipal museum in 1974. Traces of the former choir and sculptures on the monumental door are reminders of the site?s origins. The pediment is listed as a Monument Historique. In 2015, the roof was restored, and the pediment is currently being restored.
