Village de Lavardens
LAVARDENS , Gers – Eredità culturale
Chi siamo
Situated on its rocky spur in the heart of Gascony, a few minutes north of Auch towards Condom, the village of Lavardens is a castelnau built around its feudal castle and church.
They form a harmonious and balanced ensemble surrounded by hills, where cultivated fields meet wooded areas.
“Lavardens, a slow and committed village ! It belongs to the national label Most Beautiful Villages in France (Plus Beaux Villages de France®).”
During your visit, discover :
* The Château de Lavardens, listed as a Historic Monument since 1961, 12th-17th centuries. Once the fiefdom of the Counts of Armagnac, Lavardens’ castle was rebuilt by the marshal Antoine de Roquelaure, loyal companion of Henry IV. Generously rewarded for his services and older man married for the second time to a very young woman named Suzanne de Bassabat, he undertook the work on the castle out of love for her.
Nowadays, the Château de Lavardens is an art centre hosting exhibitions throughout the year.
To visit the castle, please refer to the opening hours and dates.
* Saint-Michel Church : the bell tower is listed as a Historic Monument. All that remains from the original building is the apse, the bell tower and the Notre-Dame chapel.
The bell tower (originally a medieval tower on three levels) was later extended with a new structure (16th-17th centuries). This newer section is clearly visible above the clock.
As you explore the village, make sure to discover the Enjourdan mills, the twin mills of Sainte-Marie, the Parat wash house, the ornate Iron Cross, the Sainte-Marie chapel…
In July and August, don’t miss the village’s traditional night markets… Meet the local artisans and local producers throughout the picturesque alleyways and try their fresh produce while enjoying the concert taking place right before your eyes…
