Mahistre and Musette Regional Nature Reserve
SAINT-LAURENT-D’AIGOUZE , Gard – Natural heritage

About
On either side of the Canal du Rhône à Sète, the regional nature reserve brings together two neighboring entities, La réserve naturelle du Mahistre et musette, a 130-hectare protected area of marshes, ponds, reedbeds and a wide variety of wildlife.
Guided discovery of the Mahistre Nature Reserve, in the middle of the sagnes, discover a secret and unsuspected flora and fauna.
On the southern, more brackish, part of the reserve, two herds of horses are responsible for keeping the area open and preserving the diversity of the site’s habitats.
The main objective of the Musette estate today is to create a flood expansion field for the Vistre.
The site is made up of open marshes that are in the process of being colonized by reeds, making it an ideal feeding and nesting ground for numerous bird species, notably tree-nesting herons.
