City of Gimont
GIMONT , Gers – Cultural heritage
About
Gimont is a bastide founded in 1265 by the Cistercian monks of Planselve.
Dominated by its church of the XIVth century, it offers us many assets: old central hall, chapel of Cahuzac, Abbey of Planselve, site of the Capuchins (former citadel), museums (archaeological and paleontological museum, museum of rural life of the past and Small Museum of the Goose and the Duck), old grain market…
Gimont has become a stronghold of foie gras not only thanks to the world-famous canneries such as Comtesse du Barry and the Dukes of Gascogne but also thanks to the success of its markets in fat and the “Grasse Matinée” from Sunday from November to the end of March.
