About

Lartigue is a charming village that seduces with its peaceful setting, its green landscapes and its traditional architecture typical of the region.

In the Middle Ages, the municipality of Lartigue was divided into 3 entities:
– Mazères: ‘Mazères’ comes from the low Latin ‘maceria’ which refers to very ancient ruins. Indeed, at this place, the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa have survived. In the 12th century, the lords of the place had a castle built there, now destroyed.
– Lagouarde: From this castle of the lords of Lagouarde remains a square tower from the 13th and 14th century, near the church of Saint-Blaise
– Lartigue: She had her lord, her church, and her small habitat.

The commune of Lartigue has a parish church rebuilt in 1848. The chapel of Mazères-Campeils dates from the late Middle Ages and has been classified as a historical monument since 1979 (private). The chapel of Lagouarde is also dated from the Middle Ages. It was dedicated to Saint Blaise. Today, it is partly destroyed. The commune also has a second church: the Church of the Assumption.

Two castles, still visible today, but private, are listed in the town. The castle of Mazères-Campeils, and the castle of Lagouarde. The second would certainly date from the 13th century.

Gallo-Roman remains were found in the village and in Mazères. A villa, marble, and vases have been listed.

In the municipality of Lartigue, 2 ZNIEFF type 1 are listed. The first “Les Coteaux de l’Arrats” covers 5 communes and extends over 1054 ha. It is located on the southern part of the commune.
