About

Gaujan is a village located in a green setting in the heart of the Gers countryside. It seduces with its calm atmosphere, bucolic landscapes and traditional architecture.

In the municipality of Gaujan, you can discover the church of Saint Anne. This church, dating from the 17th century, has been remodeled at different times. It has a square bell tower with a slate spire on eight sides as well as a curved portal, dating from 1928. At its heart, there is a chapel dedicated to the Virgin with stained glass and statue.

Previously, at a place called ‘Massès’, there was an important Gallo-Roman villa. One has, in particular, discovered remains of pottery, tegulae, coins, a golden bronze statuette, sarcophages as well as a hermetically sealed containing six skeletons.

In the village of Gaujan, you will also have the opportunity to discover a mill and the Gauzenne flour mill. A water mill is listed in the municipality. The Gouzène Flour Mill, still in operation today since 1876, has been passed from father to son for 5 generations.

The town of Gaujan has a Natura 2000 site “La vallée et coteaux de la Lauze”. It is a bocage mesh weakly represented in the bottom of alluvial valleys with remarkable orchid environments.

There are 2 ZNIEFF type 1 “Les Coteaux de la Gimone à Monbardon” and “Les prairies humides de la Gimone à Gaujan et Monbardon”.
