Salinelles temple

SALINELLES , Gard – Cultural heritage

About

19th-century temple housing the oldest bell in the canton, a rare witness to local Protestant history.

Built in 1827, the Protestant temple in Salinelles is a precious witness to the village’s religious history. Listed as a Historic Monument on November 7, 1991, its sober, harmonious architecture is typical of the 19th century. Its bell tower houses an exceptional bell, dated 1583, from the former Sommières temple. This is the oldest bell in the canton, and a powerful symbol of local Protestant memory and the transmission of a spiritual heritage.

This temple embodies the rich cultural heritage of Salinelles, with its architecture surprisingly influenced by the Baroque styles of Spain, Mexico and California, giving it a unique and unexpected character.
