Le premier pont de Buzet-sur-Tarn fut construit au XIIIe siècle par le comte Raymond de Toulouse avec de la pierre et un tablier de bois couvert comme la plupart des ponts de cette époque, c’est alors le seul pont de pierre entre Montauban et Albi.
This bridge became more fragile over time, and was even partially or completely destroyed and rebuilt several times. It finally collapsed in 1718, and its remains can still be seen today. In the mid-18th century, the Languedoc government recognised that the bridge was in a state of disrepair and useless, and preferred the Saint-Sulpice-la-Pointe bridge on the Toulouse-Albi route. Between 1738 and 1839, the inhabitants of Buzet, who had benefited from the five-century-old bridge, had to resign themselves to taking a ferry across the Tarn to go and cultivate their land on the hillsides on the right bank… Oral tradition tells of many shipwrecks. The bridge was finally raised in 1872, but it was no longer able to cope with the increasing traffic as factories were built along the Tarn. It was replaced in 1924, but was swept away by the flood of 1930. The Buzet-sur-Tarn bridge crosses the Tarn to link the village to its hillsides. It has just one lane for traffic. Construction of the suspension bridge began in 1954 and was completed in May 1955. It was designed by engineer Georges Imbault of the Baudin Chateauneuf company, which specialises in metal constructions. It is made of red bricks, with reinforced concrete and steel foundations. The bridge is 150 metres long, 16 metres high above the Tarn and weighs 220 tonnes. The bridge was inaugurated on 15 August 1955 in the presence of Joseph Constant, former mayor of Buzet-sur-Tarn.
