In former times, the Tarn was crossed by ferry.
In the past, the Tarn was crossed by a ferry. The path leading to it still exists on both banks. The ferry was owned by the community, but the right to use it was renewable each year in return for an annual fee paid by the highest bidder. A few years after its creation, the bridge was weakened by the floods of 1930, but it was the only one to survive. Work on the new bridge began in 1952. It was inaugurated in 1955 by the minister Pierre Bourgès-Maunoury. The current Bessières bridge is a metal structure. It rests on part of the piers of the old bridge, which can be recognised by the tiles bonded with lime mortar. The bridge is both elegant and solid, with two lanes and a modern design. This work of art embellished Bessières and was inaugurated in 1955.
