Park of Rouret

SAINT-CHRISTOL-LES-ALES , Gard – Cultural heritage

About

Ideal place for a walk, games for children and tree houses/ nets, it is also a place where many animations take place like the Nuit Douce (musical evening) or the Nuit des étoiles.

This park dates back to 1782 when Jacques Destremx (elected mayor of the commune in 1869 and 1888) bought the three properties of the Marquis de Montmoirac, also lord of Montèze and Saint-Christol. From inheritance to marriage and life annuity, the Trouchaud couple (mayor of Saint-Christol-lez-Alès in 1932) settled down and became passionate about Rouret by creating an English garden, which over time became a natural park of Mediterranean type.
In 1987, the municipality bought the 14-hectare estate, the park, but also the manor house, and developments were made around it: a stadium, a fitness trail, a botanical trail, a CAT, and a leisure center nearby.
Many trees were planted there: cedars, maples, magnolia, red oak and a playground for children aged 1 to 6 years was built.
This place is now very appreciated for its calm. An ideal place for a stroll, it is also a place where many events take place such as the Nuit Douce (musical evening) or the Nuit des étoiles.
