Situated in the very heart of Perpignan, this 13th-century palace was, for nearly a century, the centre of the short-lived Kingdom of Majorca. The palace was built at the behest of James II, who wished to have a residence in the continental capital of his kingdom. Construction of the palace began before 1274 in the Late Gothic style and was completed after 1300 in the Gothic style. The sumptuous chapels reflect the refinement of that era and Perpignan’s status as an economic, political and cultural centre of the medieval Mediterranean.
