JOLIMONT OBSERVATORY

About

Built in 1846, the Jolimont observatory is one of the best preserved in France. It houses a series of astronomical instruments listed in the heritage inventory (meridian telescope, sky map telescope, 830 mm telescope, large 38 cm diameter telescope).

The Jolimont observatory is the headquarters of the Société d’Astronomie Populaire (SAP). Its team of volunteer members practises amateur astronomy while at the same time, within the limits of its means, ensuring the discovery of astronomy for the general public through conferences, visits and events such as: La Nuit des Etoiles, La Fête de la Science, les Journées du Patrimoine and observation of astronomical phenomena. The Observatory is open to the public every Friday evening. (reception from 9pm to 9.30pm – visit begins at 9.30pm). On the last Friday of the month, the presentation of the observatory is replaced by a conference.
