NOTRE DAME DE GARAISON
MONLEON-MAGNOAC , Hautes-Pyrénées – Cultural heritage
About
A 16th century sanctuary in the heart of the Magnoac, with astonishing vaults decorated with ex-votos, biblical scenes and 16th century peasant life, an altarpiece with life-size figures, a fully painted sacristy, a place with many historical facets, such as its transformation into an internment camp for German families between 1914 and 1919; a garden with fountains, a school for two centuries, and an assured welcome.
Around 1515, the Blessed Virgin appeared three times to a young shepherdess, Anglèze de Sagazan, and said to her “I want a chapel to be built here. Here I will spread my gifts. Don’t forget to thank God for his blessings”.
In 1540, the present chapel was completed (classified as a historical monument in 1924). Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme
