MUSEE DE LA RESISTANCE ET DE LA DEPORTATION
CASTELNAU-LE-LEZ , Hérault – Cultural heritage
About
The Museum of Resistance and Deportation is a place for transmission, education and reflection on the history of the Second World War and its challenges in the face of a current situation that continues to put back into the present a past that seemed to be behind us. Created in 1990 by former resisters and deportees, this museum explores the different themes of World War II history, and bears the memories of men and women engaged in this struggle. Through the exposition of objects, documents, and testimonies, the museum shines a light on Resistance in the R3 Region (including the south of Occitanie, Aude, Aveyron, Gard, Hérault, Lozère, Pyrénées-Orientales). An educational tool for both students and the general public, the museum aims to perpetuate the spirit of resistance, freedom, solidarity, and tolerance in the face of all forms of oppression and discrimination. Its mission are citizenship education, and to hone republican values by defending religious freedom.
