MUSÉE D’ART BRUT MONTPELLIER
MONTPELLIER , Hérault – Cultural heritage
About
In the heart of the “Beaux Arts” district of Montpellier, discover a major art collection devoted to “Art Brut”’, singular and visionary arts – the work of self-taught artists spanning from the early twentieth century “historic” period to the international outsider art movement of today. This museum showcases key works by untrained, primitive and obsessive artists, each one of them having developed a highly personal universe. The museum is home to many “treasures” and exhibits the most important ones which are renown throughout the world, such as Aloïse Corbaz, Martin Ramirez, Augustin Lesage, Johann Hauser, Adolf Wölfli. It offers visitors exhibition rooms over an area of 8,600 square feet. It is adorned with a patio with trees and several sculptures. A bookshop is also available to the public as well as Fernand Michel’s zinc artworks (workshop and family home) which reveals a prolific imagination. This cultural space represents one of the finest museums in France.
