Montclus, village classé “Plus Beaux Villages de France”
MONTCLUS , Gard – Cultural heritage
About
Nestled between some hills and green valleys, the village of Montclus managed to keep the subtle balance between a touristic attraction and an environmental protection.
Included in the “Natura 2000 Guarrigues de Lussan” zone, the village keeps an acute awareness of its natural wealth, with a fauna and flora which is particularly varied. Built in the 13th century, it kept some picturesque traces from its past history such as: the vestiges of an old troglodyte Benedictine monastery in the hamlet “Les Beaumes”, the medieval castle, the Mill bridge, to which may be added some exquisite landscape gems: the Marnade source and the lavender fields, which display their colours as if to celebrate the beginning of summer. Come admire the picture-postcard landscapes, which have already attracted the cinema!
