MINERVE CITE CATHARE

MINERVE , Hérault – Cultural heritage

About

Between Cévennes and the Black Mountain, the village of Minerve rises from a rocky spur, overlooking the Cesse and Brian gorges. The natural bridges in the Cesse valley make it an exceptional geological site. Bearing traces of prehistoric hunters and gatherers, Minerve is best known for the siege it underwent in 1210 during the harrowing crusade against the Cathars. The historical capital of the Minervois region, it is now one of the most glorious gateways to the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park and is classed as one of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France”. Over a weekend or during an extended stay you can take the time to discover this historical area, taste some AOC wines, enjoy some local flavours and meet the locals themselves.
