EXOTIC GARDEN OF DIQUE D’ORRY
PERPIGNAN , Pyrénées-Orientales – Cultural heritage
About
The dyke at Orry was built in the 18th century, upstream of Pont Joffre, to protect crops in the Bas-Vernet area from flooding by the river Têt. It was reinforced and extended in the 20th century. Gardens and facilities were gradually created between 1984 and 1990. As part of the Es Têt regional project, this lookout point overlooking the river Têt, the Archipel theatre, the pedestrian footbridge and the Canigou mountain was transformed in 2018 into a vast landscaped public space covering more than 2 hectares. 250 trees have been preserved or planted, and two large play areas have been created, including a 50-metre-long swing allowing everyone to rediscover this panorama from another angle. Divided into sequences. Among other things, this redevelopment makes it possible to stroll around and sit down. Over 300 metres of benches have been created, as well as 50 metres of bleachers, 50 benches and 30 deckchairs.
