LE MUSÉE DE LA DÉPORTATION ET DE LA RÉSISTANCE DE TARBES ET DES HAUTES-PYRÉNÉES

TARBES , Hautes-Pyrénées – Cultural heritage

About

The Museum of Deportation and Resistance of the city of Tarbes and the Hautes-Pyrénées opened its doors in 1989, born of the desire to fight against oblivion so that the memory of the struggles against oppression, hatred and racism lives on. As its founder, Doctor Raymond Solladié, wished, this place of memory is open to all and aims to transmit precious knowledge about the time
Tarbes was awarded the WAR CROSS for its action

The Museum deals with the entire local history of the Resistance: the history of prisoners of war, stalag, resistance fighters, escapees, deportees, internees, the Bigorre Regiment, smugglers in the Pyrenees.
These collections became municipal on 16 December 1988 and today the Museum of Deportation and Resistance is managed by the Museum Service of the City of Tarbes.

A visit to the Museum of Deportation and Resistance invites everyone to meditate on the meaning of the word “DUTY”:
Duty of memory, but also duty of vigilance and citizenship so that future generations will never live “NEVER AGAIN” again, because in the words of Bertolt Brecht “The belly of the filthy beast is still fertile” …

The visit of the Museum is presented in chronological stages:
– The conflagration of Europe: 1933-1942
– Resistance and repression
– The Deportation: From Oppression to Liberation
This moving museum allows us to understand the networks of resistance in the Hautes-Pyrénées and places Tarbes at the centre of this device in the image of the Corps Franc Pommiès.

The collections, initially presented in a travelling exhibition, were later housed in the premises of this former school, allocated by the city of Tarbes to the associations of veterans and deportees who founded the Museum. Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme
