THE DOVECOTE FROM THE 19TH CENTURY
VILLARIES , Haute-Garonne – Cultural heritage
About
Until the French Revolution, the possession of a dovecote was a seigneurial right. It was used to raise pigeons appreciated for their fine flesh and for the fertilizing quality of their droppings. Built probably in the 19th century, it is representative of the arcaded pigeon houses common in Toulouse. There is a heritage panel on the site. A must see in the commune of Villariès: the Saint-Julien Church, the Wash house/Trough, the Sully Oak, the Archaeological Museum, etc.
