GARDEN OF THE GEORGES LABIT MUSEUM
TOULOUSE , Haute-Garonne – Cultural heritage
About
Temporarily closed. The Georges Labit Museum is as exotic and other-worldly outside as it is inside. We would expect no less from gardens that surround a Moorish villa right in the heart of Toulouse!
The astonishing villa was constructed under the initiative of the great traveller Georges Labit in order to house the works collected during his trips to the Orient. When you admire this fabulous collection, it is important not to overlook the gardens. As Mediterranean as they are Oriental, they provide a journey through the plant world amidst the various palm trees and bamboos. You will also find a banana tree and extremely rare plants originating from Australia, an aloe, an orchid-covered tree and a variety of palm from New Zealand. At the corner of the rue du Japon (where else?…) and the rue des Martyrs de la Résistance, azaleas, bamboos and a tree fern evoke the flora of Asia in particular.
