About
Welcome to the Jardin de la Motte!! An artificial castle mound created in 960, it became the site of a château and allowed the counts of Melgueil to dominate the county of Melgueil. The mound was converted into a garden in 1890 and further developed in 1906 (into a modest copy of the Buttes Chaumont in Paris). A sign of new wealth, this post-romantic garden – formerly very flowery and full of exotic plant varieties – was listed as a protected natural site in 1992. There is a planned route: follow the 6 numbered signs, find the 15 varieties with a notice at their roots and, thanks to the 4 viewpoint indicators, you can enjoy a superb panoramic view from the lookout point.
