About
clock kiosk of 7m with 6 faces realized by Coutençon in 1889 Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme
In 1888, Mr. Léon Mendras, Mayor of Marvejols, planned the establishment of a clock kiosk on the Place Thiers (today Place Henri Cordesse) in the town centre. Mr. Coutençon, a clock mechanic in Creil (Oise), proposed to install a 7 meter high kiosk clock at his own expense in exchange for the exclusive right to advertise on the 6 faces of the clock for 30 years. Agreement, signature and installation in 1889
In 1963, the clock was in need of major repairs: for 20 years the hands remained fixed, but the steel and gilded bronze mechanism still made it valuable.
In 1989, for the centenary of the clock, the municipality decided to restart it. The clock works again in 1991 but many problems remain until 1997, when the municipality asks the jeweller’s shop JOUVE de Marvejols to equip the clock with a QUARTZ system
The old system is preserved and visible in the Small Museum of the 2 Albert in Marvejols. Traduction automatique par DeepL via DATAtourisme
