About
Communal bread oven with remarkable vault and paving.
The communal oven of Gos illustrates the “banalities” of the French feudal system: technical facilities that the lord was required to maintain and make available to all inhabitants of the seigneury. In exchange, they were obligated to use these paid installations only (communal oven, taxed by “fournage”, communal mill, communal wine press, market).
These privileges were abolished and declared redeemable on the night of 4 August 1789, then abolished definitively without compensation in 1793.
