About

Built by Vauban in the 18th century, the fort is a masterpiece of military architecture. Its purpose was to guard the two easiest entry points to France, the Perthus and Panissars passes. From its terrace, there is a unique view over the Roussillon and Empordà plains. Between France and Spain, the fort dominates the two Catalan regions. Numerous exhibition rooms to visit: – permanent exhibitions on the history of the site and the border, including the “retirada”. – Temporary art exhibitions in season. Guided tours at fixed times.
