About
Corneilla, residence of the Counts of Cerdagne and Conflent, owes its very rich church to its proximity to the Counts. Its bell tower dates from the early Romanesque period (11th century), and its facade and chevet from the 12th century are of large stonework and decorated with sculptures. A former collegiate church, it still has its 13th-century choir stalls, three Romanesque virgins, a 14th-century liturgical wardrobe and an alabaster altarpiece (the work of the great Catalan sculptor Jaume Cascalls, dating from 1346).
