Several successive buildings bearing the name of St. Peter have probably been erected here since 960. The church that dominates the village today was built in 1844. It was rebuilt over the old cemetery and on the enlarged foundations of an earlier Gothic church, consecrated in 1496. The first church mentioned in 960 was certainly Romanesque, and its “ghost” can perhaps be seen in the house to the right of the first town hall. Very little remains of the previous 15th-century Gothic church, which was almost completely destroyed when it was rebuilt in the 19th century. What remains is the bell tower, which has been altered by countless repairs and retains only its original base.
