About
Named St Jacques because it was on the way to Compostela, known as “des Roumieux” (the pilgrims coming from Rome), the original building is “Carolingian Romanesque”. That is to say, it dates from the very beginning of the 10th century, as the columns and capitals inside and outside the chevet of the church testify The first known abbot was Aymeric, mentioned in documents in 907. The Viscount of Béziers, Raynard II, was buried there in 969. Remodeled in the 12th century, mutilated in the 18th, the church has recently recovered its Romanesque character. From the garden, you have a beautiful view of the Orb plain and the St Nazaire cathedral.
