Founded in 1202 by a Benedictine abbess, it has undergone numerous transformations over the centuries. It features a bell tower with a medieval base and a marble high altar listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments.
A building that bears witness to a rich history. In 1028, the powerful de Lautrec family founded a Benedictine abbey, Notre-Dame de La Sagne, on the banks of the Agout River. The Church of Saint-Géminien has undergone numerous transformations throughout history. It was completely rebuilt after the Wars of Religion and then partially expanded in the 19th century. These additions are set against a bell tower whose medieval base, featuring beautifully laid sandstone masonry, displays glacis cornices and arrowslits—traces of the building’s defensive role, situated at a strategic point along the riverbank. It also adjoins the Lautrec Tower, notable for its coats of arms and the burial chamber.
The high altar (1765), the work of the Mazetti brothers, with its marbles arranged in a marquetry pattern, as well as the large triptych, complete the choir of this very old church.
