Eglise Saint-corneille et Saint-cyprien
SAUVIAN , Hérault – Cultural heritage
About
The church stands isolated on a small square. This singularity highlights an edifice that was certainly originally a Roman temple. The first parish church was built in the 5th century. Completely ruined in the 8th century, it was rebuilt and modified between the 10th and 15th centuries. The church’s furnishings have also changed considerably: first with a Romanesque marble altar (now in the Petit Séminaire de Celleneuve), the church has since seen the arrival of an 18th-century tabernacle and white marble from chapels in Béziers…
The Eglise St Corneille et St Cyprien de Sauvian also boasts an ancient necropolis in the basement.
