EGLISE SAINT ANDRE D’ANGOUSTRINE
ANGOUSTRINE-VILLENEUVE-DES-ESCALDES , Pyrénées-Orientales – Cultural heritage
About
The church of Angoustrine is first mentioned in the act of consecration of the Cathedral of Santa Maria d’Urgell in the 10th century. The church dates from the 12th century, but has an 11th-century apse and two 18th-century side chapels. The church has a single nave, a semi-circular apse and a bell tower-wall. Covered in slate, it is built in rubble stone, with only the quoins, portal and oculi frames in ashlar. To the east, the church has a fine Romanesque apse adorned with an arcature of small round arches. To the south, the façade features a 12th-century arched doorway framed by columns topped with sculpted capitals.
