ROMANESQUE CHURCH OF SAINTE-MARIE
MARIGNAC , Haute-Garonne – Cultural heritage
About
The church is from the 12th century despite appearances. Like many Romanesque churches of the Comminges, this church contains archaeological elements used today.
The parish church dates back to the 12th century. It was remodeled in the 19th century. It shelters the marble shields of the old noble families of Marignac, such as the Pardaillan, the Sicard de Miramont, the shield of the counts of Comminges, and probably of Saint Pierre. The commune still has three chapels; the Saint-Martin chapel (10th and 11th centuries) renovated in 2005 was one of the seats of the Templars, the Calvary chapel (at the foot of the Rie mountain), and the Saint Roch chapel (between the village and the hamlet of Saint-Martin) and three castles: the one of Espouy, the one of Sacère (attached to the church and partially destroyed during the Revolution), and the Lucien Saint castle.
