The church is closed for renovation; there are no longer any masses scheduled there. The former Church of St Mary in the old town, which had already been partially destroyed during the war of 1642 between France and Spain, was completely razed to the ground in 1672 on the orders of Vauban to make way for the castle’s glacis. It was not until 1684 that the new church was built. The external gallery was added in 1725. Despite its austere exterior, the church boasts exceptional interior richness and architecture, in particular the high altarpiece by the Catalan artist Joseph Sunyer, carved from wood and gilded with gold leaf. The stones of the bell tower mark the stages of its construction. For your information, here are the Mass times: Wednesday at 9.30 am and Saturday at 6.30 pm
