Aimargues Church
AIMARGUES , Gard – Cultural heritage
About
Built in 1869, it is designed in both the Neo-Gothic and Neo-Romanesque styles and is topped by a 48-meter-high bell tower. The facade bears an inscription that is uncommon in France: “French Republic. Liberty, Equality, Fraternity.”
Don’t miss the magnificent stained-glass windows, which combine vibrant colors and historical scenes, created by the famous Didron in the 18th century, as well as the painting of Jesus created in 1548 by Simon de Chalon. Built according to the plans of architect Henri-Antoine Révoil during the Second Empire, the bell tower is very slender and stands 40 meters tall.
