The Château de Valmirande, built by Baron Bertrand de Lassus, is an ex-nihilo creation of the end of the 19th century. In 1892, he acquired 10 plots of land in one piece, with a surface area of about 41 hectares, in order to build the castle, surrounded by a landscaped park. The design of the château was entrusted to Louis Garros, an architect from Bordeaux. For the park, Baron de Lassus called upon the Bülher brothers, creators of the park of the “tête d’Or” in Lyon, the Borély park in Marseille and the Talleyrand property in Valençay… In 1902, the castle was extended to the east by a chapel whose stained glass windows, marbles and the Sacred Heart of L. Barrias can be admired. In 1912, the landscape gardener René Édouard André inserted two French-style flowerbeds: one to the north of the castle, the other to the south from which one can discover the view of the Pyrenees mountain range so loved by Bertrand de Lassus. The castle, a private residence, cannot be visited.
