About
The Capuchins, “religious of the Order of Saint Francis of Assisi”, arrived in Cazères in 1613. A chapel was built in 1619, followed by a cloister adjoining the chapel in 1717. The cloister was built using stone extracted from underground quarries in Belbèze-en-Comminges. The stones were first cut on the quayside at Roquefort and then transported to Cazères via the Garonne. The Capuchin cloister consists of an inner courtyard surrounded by a peristyle, the vaulting of which is supported by heavy pillars with no sculptures.
