CHATEAU BAS DE BOUSSAGUES

This Romanesque castle overhanging the cliff was the home of the Lords of Boussagues (the Castellas having above all a military role). The south tower, nicknamed Tour de Preignes, dates from the end of the 12th century. The Boussagues built this “new castle” (la domus nova) and the adjoining districts between 1200 and 1256, then had the streams dug. The wall was then pierced with 3 or 4 gates in a pointed arch. Note the two geminated bays. Two possible entrances: to the north into an alleyway from below, and from above from the Place du Plénier. At the end of the 16th century, the Dalichoux of Sénégra, following a purchase in 1569, had the east wing and the corner turret built. The junction contains two majestic halls with superimposed vaults, in medieval style.
