Chapelle Notre Dame des Pins
ESPONDEILHAN , Hérault – Cultural heritage
About
The Notre-Dame des Pins chapel owes its name to the ruins of the Roman villa “ad pinis”, above which it was built… and to the clump of maritime pines that surrounds it. Listed as a historic monument since 1907, it dates back to the 12th century (1120, some even believe it to be contemporary with the Basilica of St. Aphrodise in Béziers), and was fortified in the 14th century, during the Hundred Years’ War. Its major asset? Its typically Romanesque porch.
