About
The Chapel of the Penitents is the former parish church of Aniane, the church of St. John the Baptist, still called the Chapel of the White Penitents. Like many churches, it bears the mark of several eras: pre-Romanesque and Romanesque of the 12th century on its south and west sides, Gothic window and rose window and Louis XVI period door. Most of the vaults are of Gothic origin (13th century), but they were restored in the 16th century, after the wars of religion. The Penitents’ Chapel is a magnificent place, full of history but always open and alive. The chapel is a place of permanent exhibition and concerts, which will also allow you to discover the historical center of Aniane.
