About
Saint-Étienne Cathedral is an impressive structure with its black colour, fortifications and imposing proportions. The basalt extracted from local quarries is what makes the walls of the building such a striking colour. Its 35-metre-high keep, fortified crenels with machicolations over arches and 2 to 3-metre thick walls make it an impenetrable fortress.
