Immerse yourself in 13th-century military architecture, and discover the keep built by St. Louis, the defensive towers and gates, and the walkway overlooking the breathtaking panorama of the Camargue and Salin. Guided tours of: the Pénitents Blancs chapel, with a fresco by Xavier Cigalon and the “Cycle de la Vierge” painted by A. Barthélémy Glaize; the Pénitents Gris chapel, with a 17th-century altarpiece; the 13th-century Notre Dame des Sablons church, with contemporary stained-glass windows by Viallat; and the Place St. Louis. Visits in high season: Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., by reservation at the Tourist Office. Chapelle des Pénitents Gris open to the public daily from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm in high season Chapelle des Pénitents Blancs open to the public daily from 2 pm to 6:30 pm from June to September.
