About
A Benedictine abbey founded in 778, the Abbey of Sainte-Marie can claim to be the oldest Carolingian abbey in Catalonia. The three-aisled Romanesque church houses a large 18th-century Schmidt organ. The 13th-century Gothic cloister adjoins the church. On the church forecourt, a holy tomb, a 4th-century sarcophagus, has inexplicably been secreting clear water since it housed the relics of Saints Abdon and Sennen.
