ABBAYE NOTRE DAME DE L’ESPERANCE
TARASTEIX , Hautes-Pyrénées – Cultural heritage
About
15 minutes from Tarbes, this abbey is one of the few testaments of faith and charity, but also of beauty. Founded in the last century by Hermann Cohen, who became Father Augustin Marie du Très Saint-Sacrement, it will experience as much turmoil as its founder of German origin. Called the Saint-Désert to house hermits, this monastery will suffer the onslaught of time. Housed German prisoners during the First World War, it was converted into a hotel and restaurant in 1956. But beyond the ruins, it is life that appears. In 1976, everything is nothing but abandonment and desolation.
