To discover Saint-Martin-du-Canigou Abbey, perched like an eagle’s nest in the heart of the Canigou massif, you must take up your pilgrim’s staff. When it suddenly comes into view at the end of the path, the walker is struck by the beauty of the site. The bell tower, adorned with arcades, and the vaulted abbey church and crypt make the abbey a jewel of early regional Romanesque architecture. Restored with great enthusiasm in the 20th century, it has been entrusted by the diocese to the Catholic Community of the Beatitudes since 1988. Masses and services are open to all. Guided tours only June–September: Monday to Sunday: at 10.00, 11.00 and 12.00 (Sundays and public holidays at 10.00 and 12.30); at 2.00 pm, 3.00 pm, 4.00 pm and 5.00 pm January: closed.
