About
The Abbey of Planselve is a Cistercian abbey from the 12th century.
This abbey is private and cannot be visited. The place is not open to the public.
In 1142, at a place called “Plana Sylva” in the forest of Planselve, Géraud de Brouilh, his wife and children made a donation of land to Abbot Albert Berdouès to build a Cistercian abbey which with the influx of numerous donations prospered in the 12th century.
In 1557, the abbey fell in commende and this began a decline. The wars of religion damaged the abbey and despite a subsequent uprising, it came to an end with the expulsion of the monks in 1791 and the sale of convent buildings and lands as national property.
In 1802, the abbey underwent the beginning of its progressive demolition which involved the south wing of the cloister, the abbey church and the monastic buildings.
To see: the entrance of the building built in stone dating from the 13th century, the Château de l’abbé, the mill, the enclosure and the dovecote.
This building is not open to the public. The place is private and closed.
