Domaine de l’Ocre Rouge
DIONS , Gard
About
Domaine de l’ocre rouge is an atypical estate producing sparkling wines on the limestone plateaux of the garrigue near Uzès. Originally from the Champagne region of France, this winemaking couple have developed an organic farm here.
The farm is located on the Dions plateau, halfway between Nîmes and Uzès. This plateau, a former terrace of the Gardon river, lies just at the entrance to the Gardon gorges, classified as a Grand Site de France. It was in this wild garrigue that the winegrowing couple chose to settle in 1999.
On this exceptional terroir of rounded pebbles, the widespread use of low yields and the expression of indigenous yeasts give their wines their distinctive character. Their wines are considered atypical compared to others in the region.
The reds are full-bodied but lightly balanced, with fine aromas, while the whites and rosés are less heady, and surprise with their pleasant natural acidity.
Don’t miss our sparkling wines (white and rosé), a blend of chardonnay and pinot noir, inspired by the family method imported from their region of origin.
